Kristina Millar
Owner / Operator of Ocean Breeze Stables Inc.

Kristina was born and raised in Metchosin and is pleased to have the opportunity to teach and train in the community she knows well. She began her equestrian lifestyle when she was very young, attending pony club and taking lessons, but always on someone elses horse. Finally, after much begging, she got a horse of her own when she was 10 years old. From that young age she began to learn everything she could about horses and teach herself how to train and teach. After high school, Kristina attended Malaspina University-College to obtain her Fisheries and Aquaculture Diploma then went on to Camosun College and eventually UVic to obtain her Bachelor of Education degree. She went on to teach in the Sooke School District for several years, never losing touch with her true equestrian passion.

In 2007, Kristina started Ocean Breeze Stables Inc., a venture which she has poured her heart and soul into and grown into a full time career.

Kristina has learned from a variety of both English and Western trainers but has received the majority of her training knowledge under Marion Weisskopff, a world renowned trainer and instructor. Kristina has worked with Marion for over 15 years and has learned her training approach based on the Natural Horsemanship theory. Kristina fell in love with the philosophy of Natural Horsemanship immediately as it provided a softer, more natural way to connect and communicate with the horse.

In 2008, Kristina received her Level 3 English and Level 2 Western Instructor Certification through the C.H.A Clinic in Lac la Hache, British Columbia and traveled to Kentucky later in the year where she received her Level 1 Driving instructor Certification from a C.H.A. Clinic held at the Kentucky Horse Park. In 2011 Kristina became a Master Instructor, after recieving her Level 4 English and Level 4 Western certification. She has since gone on to become one of only a handful of Clinic Instructors in all of Canada and travels throughout Western Canada to assess and certify future instructors through C.H.A. certification clinics.

Kristina enjoys sharing her knowledge of horses and riding through her riding lessons, but her true passion is the training aspect. She loves the challenges and rewards that go along with training horses, and looks forward to every training session. She is patient, calm and confident when dealing with horses, which allows her to connect with them so easily. She is currently teaching and further developing the Equine Studies program through the Sooke School District.
